Crystal Mozart embarks on her maiden voyage today, sailing along the Danube from her spectacular home port of Vienna. Given the city’s deeply fascinating history, rich culture and astonishing beauty, guests might find it difficult to wave farewell to the Austrian capital (even if it is from the luxurious Vista Deck of the World’s Only Luxury River Cruise Line).
Fortunately, the farewell is only temporary, as Crystal Mozart sails all of its stunning itineraries from this magical port, spending three full days and allowing for plenty of opportunity to uncover the city’s most cherished treasures. Vienna itself is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (one of three on this journey!), and within it lie countless glimpses into the past, a past that has influenced the global landscape of art and music for centuries.
Schubert, Beethoven and, of course, Mozart, were all inspired by Vienna, and in turn, have inspired much of the city’s spirit. Evidence of the masters – musical, artistic and architectural – is everywhere as you explore the distinct alcoves throughout. Schnitzel, strudel and spätzle are abundant for sharing with your fellow travelers (or not sharing at all), perfectly washed down with an Austrian beer.
Several complimentary Crystal Adventures explore Vienna’s timelessness, while others offer special perspectives and experiences for an additional charge. Many of the sites are on the “must see” list for first-time visitors, and even returning travelers will find new delights and surprises.
Burgtheater, the Austrian National Theatre, one of the world’s most significant German-language theatres, has served a pivotal role in the German dramatic arts for more than 250 years.
St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Vienna’s Gothic masterpiece, has been an important Roman Catholic archdiocese for 700 years. Climb its 343 spiral steps into the tower for the finest city views. It’s worth it.
Hapsburg Palace, formerly the winter residence of the Hapsburg monarchs; and now home to the famous Spanish Riding School, where regal Lipizzaner stallions perform. (And, where Crystal Mozart Godmother Elisabeth Gürtler is managing director).
Schönbrunn Palace, the 18th century Baroque, 1,441-room former Imperial summer residence and gardens, is Austria’s most important architectural sites. The gardens house sculptures and manicured natural works of art that hail back to 1695, a focal Gloriette on a 200-foot hilltop, and expansive views.
Our Crystal Adventures experts have a wealth of extraordinary, complimentary experiences in store to showcase the wonders of the locales along the Danube. From exclusive Michelin Star Culinary experiences to an über-special evening at Vienna’s Belvedere Palace, where Crystal guests will enjoy masterpieces and music exclusively.
As it is her home port, Crystal Mozart will always return to Vienna. We’re pretty certain you’ll want to, too.
