In Crystal Cruises®, Gallivanting the Globe

Maybe it’s the rhythm of the tango pulsing through the moonlit streets of Buenos Aires, or the spices that flavor Ecuadorian specialties with just a hint more kick than is comfortable for most modest palates, or maybe it’s the rum. Whatever its secrets, South America has long held the hearts of travelers, often sparking romantic memories simply by acting as the ideal setting for any number of enamored pursuits. In early 2017, as Crystal Serenity sails toward the Equator on the “Southern Celebración” World Cruise, she’ll visit destinations throughout South America that are certain to encourage your romantic side to take over. There will be no shortage of opportunities for candlelit dinners (on board and ashore), long walks on expansive beaches and a rich tapestry of colorful landscapes.

But, there are a few adventures that will set a particularly special scene for you and your most special travel partner…

Share a toast in the Uruguayan winelands. Taste the tannins of Uruguayan Tannat – along with Sauvignon Blanc, Gewurztraminer, Chenin Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir – during a special visit to Juanico Winery (from Montevideo). Descend into the caves and learn of about the organic growing practices employed by this premier winemaking family for the last 150 years.

Ride off into the sunset. Perhaps not technically sunset, though there is no time of day that is not beautiful when it comes to a tranquil horseback ride through the Chilean countryside. During a visit to Castro (Chiloé Island), you’ll head toward the shores of Lake Rio San Pedro, and take time to catch your breath as you take in the view of the forested lakeshore.

Feel the rhythm. In the heart of the birthplace of the tango, you’ll be treated to private instruction on the intricate steps of the passionate dance. The tango beats at the heart of Buenos Aires, and all of South American culture, and you may find its heat irresistible.

Electric nightlife = date night. Really, any evening during a Crystal cruise is an opportunity for romance, whether dining in black tie or chatting over cocktails in the Avenue Saloon. Take date night up a notch by taking advantage of Rio de Janeiro’s famous nightlife, which, during Crystal Serenity’s March 13-15 visit will be enhanced by the annual Carnival celebration. Visit the Plataforma nightclub (almost always sold out, but we can get you in) for an electrifying Samba performance, complete with sequins, feathers, cocktails and a rhythm that will leave you wanting more.

Escape from your escape. Your Crystal vacation is possibly (and understandably) the trip of a lifetime, one you won’t want to end. But there are opportunities to escape in Crystal style on an even more intimate adventure that most of your fellow cruise mates will not share. Crystal Overland Adventures whisk you from the ship to far-off locales for in-depth destination discovery, including two nights to the mesmerizing Iguazú Falls (you’ll see both the Argentinian and Brazilian sides); one night in the glacial wonder of rock, water and ice that is Los Glaciares National Park in Argentina; four astounding nights exploring the birthplace of the Incas, 12,000 feet above sea level in the Andes, with uber-romantic lakefront accommodations.
