At least, it should be. Particularly if your idea of relaxation involves an elevated heart rate, rugged treks on mysterious terrain, underwater worlds and rugged peaks with views for miles, then Croatia is your playground. Along the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia, these endeavors are part of the local fabric and a reason that the savviest world travelers flock to the islands each year. What’s also a favorite of the locals? Sailing and yachting, as many of the most stunning locales cannot be reached any other way and, thus, present more intimate, less tourist-laden canvases for your next adventures.
Now through October, and during the spring and summer of 2017 and 2018, Crystal Esprit can take you there, with seven- and 14-day itineraries sailing the Adriatic Sea, calling in less often visited locales rich with history, mystery natural wonders that seem to go on forever. Crystal Yacht Cruises’ destination experts have already crafted excursions with your most intrepid spirit at heart. Now, all you have to do is pack.
We recommend you be ready for any type of outdoor Croatian adventure. Bathing suits, hiking shoes or boots, sun protection and layers are all responsible choices. But the most important item to pack is likely your camera, because you’ll definitely want to share your stories when you return to reality, and a picture is worth… well, you know. Here are five things that will push Croatia to the top of your wanderlust list:
CLIFF CLIMBING – Surrounded nearly entirely by canyon and cliffs at the mouth of the Cetina River, Omis is a quiet historical haven that beckons rock climbers and hikers from around the world. High quality limestone faces offer challenges for climbers of all levels, with route difficulty ranging from “4a to 8b,” (USA scale 5.6 to 5.15), or, in layman’s terms, novice level to expert. Speaking of experts, they’ll be on hand to assist and guide Crystal guests of any level of experience scale the cliffs. Whatever route you choose upward, the Cetina River and clear blue Adriatic both await you below for a rewarding post-climb swim.
TRIATHLON OF BEAUTY – A mini three-sport challenge connects active travelers with some of the most picturesque sites in Dubrovnik. The kayak-bicycle-run challenge takes you from your kayak exploration of the caves in Zaton Bay to Rijeka Estuary to begin your short bike ride along the Rijeka Dubrovacka River, then on to the final challenge: running. The route follows the train route that once connected Dubrovnik with Bosnia and Herzegovina, giving you a history lesson along with your workout. The finish line is the yacht itself, where the decadent dessert you’ve earned awaits you.
HISTORY NOW – Adventures of the mind abound in Croatia, as remnants of the cities’ past still mingle with everyday modern culture. In Zagreb, explore the Gornji Grad (Upper Town) and Donji Grad (Lower Town) and you’ll find evidence of the two medieval settlements that combined to create the Croatian capital. In Vis, you’ll come across remaining structures from previous occupants – Romans, Greeks, Austrians, Brits – that are still in use today, while Split’s Diocletian Palace and Dubrovnik’s famous 6th century walls are recognized by UNESCO. You can scarcely walk through a Croatian city and avoid feeling the historical significance that still colors modern times.
MORE THAN YOUR AVERAGE DIVES – There will, of course, be scores of vibrantly colored fish and other sea life. And there will also be subaquatic coral reefs and terrain not seen in the dry sunshine. But along the Dalmatian coast of the Adriatic, there will also be hidden caves and wrecks of failed ship journeys, now enveloped by the sea’s flora and fauna. One- and two-tank dives geared toward certified divers with advanced experience are offered from nearly every Croatian port of call, you could potentially spend more of your luxury yachting vacation under water than on land.
NATIONAL PARKS – There are seven in Croatia, each more magnificent than the last. Among the options on your Crystal Esprit adventures is Krka National Park, which might appear to be more of an extension of the sea than a haven for hiking and other land-side treks. This aquatic playground owes to the Krka River, which begins in a canyon and winds through the 142 square miles of parkland, spilling into massive waterfalls along the way, finally landing in lakes and pools that practically beg you to swim.
SUNSETS ON THE ADRIATIC – It may not require the same level of energy of your day’s other adventures, but it will certainly elevate your heart rate.
Croatia is calling. Book your Crystal Esprit voyage through Adriatic Sea now for additional savings and value.
