Sarah Vickers, of “Classy Girls Wear Pearls,” is back on the blog today, with a shipboard account of the European adventures she and her fiance, Kiel Patrick, are enjoying with Crystal…
Greetings from beautiful Italy! Kiel and I are relishing every moment aboard Crystal Serenity. This trip is everything we dreamed it would be and more. Each day we continue to look forward to the port excursions, nightly entertainment, and delicious dining options (including the freshest sushi prepared by a Nobu-trained chef at Silk Road) as we cruise our way from Venice to Mont.
On the first day of our journey we were warmly welcomed by the Crystal Cruise staff with chilled glasses of champagne and a light lunch. After an overnight flight to Venice this is exactly what we needed (in addition to a long nap). Feeling refreshed, we ventured out later that evening for a romantic gondola ride for two. It was an enchanting way to experience the city at night.
The next morning we enjoyed a couple of hours sightseeing in Venice, before departing to Kotor Bay, Montenegro. The small mountainous country was a beautiful site to behold. Accompanied by the rain and fog, Montenegro appeared mysterious and picturesque. Stray cats roamed the cobblestone streets and made a welcome appearance in the many images we snapped of this destination. While our time in Montenegro may have been short, we were able to learn a great deal about the rich culture.
This experience couldn’t be better for exploring the best of Italy. There are so many unique and special places in this country that it would be impossible to see everything in one trip. Guests are able to relax, while the Crystal Cruises crew does an amazing job of arranging a variety of excursions led each day by knowledgeable local tour guides. (There are also opportunities to explore each port without a guide, for those who prefer to sightsee at their own pace.) Every want or need is anticipated on this ship.
As an added bonus we were delighted to find delicious small plates (prosciutto basil sandwiches, shrimp cocktail, guac and chips to name a few) waiting for us in our room upon returning from each excursion. There is nothing that works up an appetite quite like a long day of exploring new places!
