Some Places Are Just Better on a Yacht
We’re returning today with the third and final installment to “Top 5” destinations to explore in 2020, as recommended by Crystal’s seasoned team of globetrotting experts. Today, it’s all about Crystal Esprit, and the island hideaways, cultural epicenters and uniquely adventurous spots that are simply best explored by yacht. Specifically, an all-suite, butler-serviced, luxury yacht with fully outfitted private marina for all manner of pursuits.
In 2020, Crystal Esprit returns to the Seychelles for the winter months, thanks to the resounding input from the true experts – you – the savvy world travelers who relish far-off escapes from all things ordinary. As the weather warms, she’ll make her way to the Adriatic, where the summertime playground offers more than just the pristinely picturesque island vistas, but also millennia of culture and history to explore. The week-long itineraries are packed with locales that will inspire and intrigue you, and almost certainly become your favorites.
Until then, here are some of our experts’ “Top 5” destinations to explore in 2020 aboard our boutique luxury yacht (a favorite destination in her own right):
This Indian Ocean archipelago was simply made for Crystal Esprit. The spirit of discovery roams freely here, welcoming all who dream of exploring paradise, from scuba divers to nature trekkers, sun-soakers to the iconic giant tortoises. Mahé’s botanical garden and thriving local markets, Praslin’s UNESCO-listed Vallée de Mai and some of the world’s most famously beautiful beaches – all awaiting your arrival.
This maiden call in 2020 has a flair for the dramatic, with ancient ruins rising from the landscape like guardians of the Aegean. Naxos is the largest of the Cyclades, where alleys bustling with shopping and cafes are in close proximity to secluded beaches and scuba sites, tranquil mountain hikes and remnants of the ancient Greek and Byzantine cultures that thrived here. The centerpiece of the island is the appropriately named Mt. Zeus, the highest peak in the Cyclades and childhood home of the king of Greek gods.
Known as the “Queen of the Adriatic,” this lovely resort town is a canvas of breathtaking vistas, best enjoyed from the Lungo Mare and the Istrian Peninsula. Here, it’s easy to lose yourself in long seaside walks that meander through cafes and boutiques, where the quaint alleyways are ensconced by buildings that date back to the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Part traditional coastal fishing village, part Venetian romance and cuisine, Piran is a bi-cultural gem near the Slovenian-Italian border. The beaches of Portoroz are lined with charming shops and cafes, while the old town serves as an impeccably preserved outdoor medieval museum. Officially bilingual and completely pedestrianized, Piran is a fascinating mix of cultures and flavors, if you can tear your eyes from the impossibly beautiful views.
Lefkada Island, Greece
Sparkling in the midst of the Ionian Sea is this less explored gem. Its imposing mountaintops contrast dramatically with the sapphire blue water, which is an impressive sight from Crystal Esprit’s anchor point off the coast of the tiny town of Nydri. Ashore, explore olive farms and mountain villages, and seaside towns with boutiques and restaurants serving Greek favorites.
Crystal Esprit’s 2020 voyages are now available for booking, offering six- to 11-day itineraries perfect for luxury getaways and easily combinable for longer vacations.
