As it does every year, my anticipation of this year’s President’s Cruise is building and I’m getting excited to spend nearly two full weeks aboard Crystal Serenity with our fantastic guests and crew. This cruise is always one of my favorite opportunities to spend quality time really communicating with travelers who have long loved Crystal – and those just getting to know us – in order to better understand their wishes as we revel in the spectacular destinations together.
With 2015 being Crystal’s 25th Anniversary year and so many exciting developments on our horizon, there will be an especially celebratory ambiance in the air on July 12, when the ship departs Lisbon for Dover/London, visiting some of my favorite locales along the way. From two overnights in winemaking mecca Bordeaux and a day spent in Oporto, Portugal (the original home of Port wine), to charming spots like St-Jean-de-Luz and Honfleur, France (an artist’s paradise!), the itinerary itself is full of memories just waiting to be captured.
There is nothing ‘ordinary’ about any Crystal voyage. However, aboard every President’s Cruise, there are additional celebrations and events that are truly extraordinary. Acclaimed Master Chef – and mastermind behind our Silk Road & The Sushi Bar restaurants – Nobu Matsuhisa, will join the voyage to create a special Omakase (chef’s choice) dinner in the specialty restaurant, as well as an extravagant, multi-course pairing experience in the Vintage Room. Nobu has been a part of the Crystal family for over a decade, so we’re thrilled to welcome him back on board to join this celebration.
One of the highlights I most look forward to is the annual President’s Excursion, which, this year, takes us to Chateau Montmuran in St-Malo, France. The castle is a magnificent fairytale-like throwback to the 12th century that makes one expect drawbridges to open; knights on horseback to ride across the courtyard; and medieval string quartets to break out in Bach and Handel (all of which may actually happen!). I expect we will all be telling stories about that evening for years to come.
As special and rare as these experiences are, they are not exclusive. In fact, the purpose of the annual President’s Cruise is to welcome as many Crystal guests as possible to join my husband, Tom, and I for the festivities and come together over our shared love to ultra-luxury travel and adventures. All guests are welcome to participate. I invite you to make your reservation soon, as there is very limited space still available, and it wouldn’t be a party without you.
The 13-day “Epicurean Escapade” President’s Cruise aboard Crystal Serenity sails on July 12.
