One of the greatest joys of travel is sharing the experiences with your loved ones, which aboard Crystal’s ocean ships, often means several generations of families sailing together. Particularly during summer and holiday voyages, when school is out and festivities are in the air, kids benefit just as much – or more – as their parents from these new, eye-opening adventures, and we’re thrilled to help make the experience as enriching and seamless as possible for families. Crystal Symphony and Crystal Serenity, while famously posh, also boast the luxury cruise industry’s only dedicated areas that cater to kids and teens. Travel with kids shouldn’t be exclusive of the luxury vacation you’ve been dreaming of.
So, once you’ve embarked and been handed your welcome glass of champagne, grab your kids and start exploring.
Fantasia and Waves are well equipped for adventure and activities on the high seas, offering junior cruisers as much to look forward to during their travels as their adult counterparts. The facilities boast art supplies, board games, building blocks, dedicated spaces with plush seating for reading or watching movies, as well as flat-screen TVs for interactive play on PlayStation® 4, Nintendo Wii™, Xbox One™, individual gaming stations and Kinect kiosks (depending on ship). Crystal Serenity’s Fantasia and Waves spaces were freshly redesigned this month, just in time for the close-to-home Alaska cruise season popular with so many families. Crystal Symphony’s junior cruisers’ areas were redone in 2012, boasting ample space for play and relaxation in a cool, “urban loft” atmosphere. On sailings with 10 or more kids, Junior Activities Directors run the show, and it’s quite a show! Here’s what’s in store for your kids on Crystal Cruises:
Scavenger hunts that focus on the highlights of the itinerary. Search for “artifacts” in Rome, wildlife in Alaska, or “royalty” in the British Isles.
Cookie baking, pizza making, and other culinary creativity in the galley.
Arts & crafts of all kinds, for all ages, also often focused on the destinations visited on each cruise. Kids can learn about the world while they create their own masterpieces.
Theatrics, whether it be a backstage tour and dress-up costume session with the onboard entertainers, a special Magic Castle at Sea performance just for junior cruisers, or showing off their own talents at a karaoke party, kids have the spotlight.
Sports. Beyond the paddle tennis courts and 360-degree promenade deck, even more athletic challenges await your kids. Relay races, swimming, volleyball, shuffleboard, dodge ball, golf lessons and even a mini Olympics-style championship offer young, active cruisers plenty of options at sea.
Teen stuff. While you won’t want to miss the latest stage show in the Galaxy Lounge, or after-dinner cocktails with friends in the Avenue Saloon, your teens would likely rather spend the evening playing video games, watching movies, having pizza and popcorn parties or late-night pool and dance parties. We’ve got you all covered.
Education (gasp!), because even during summer vacation, there is still so much to learn while traveling the world. Crystal’s libraries offer hundreds of titles for young readers of all ages, as well as DVDs available for check-out to enjoy at their leisure.
We feel strongly that travel enriches everyone, and “luxury” doesn’t just apply to adults. Your families will find the luxury of options for everyone aboard Crystal ships. Each dining venue offers menu options for kids, while in-room babysitting services are also available upon request for young ones.
It’s never too early to pass your wanderlust on to your children, as well as your clearly exquisite taste in luxury cruise lines.
