Episode 8 of the Podcast Features an Insightful Conversation with former British Diplomat Sir Michael Burton

Crystal Symphony Cruise Director Russ Grieve is setting sail with former member of the British Diplomatic Service, Sir Michael Burton as they set sail from Tokyo to Hong Kong.

Sir Michael Burton is a generalist. His long and varied career in the British Diplomatic Service left him with an in-depth knowledge of the history, politics and culture of the Middle East and North Africa, South and South-East Asia and the Mediterranean. In Europe, he served in France, Germany (Berlin) and the Czech Republic. Sir Michael was educated at Magdalen College, Oxford, following active service in the Malayan Emergency (on which he lectures). Upon joining the Diplomatic Service, he learned Arabic and later served in the Gulf, Jordan, Lebanon and Sudan. In retirement, he has kept up-to-date on world affairs (as a member of Chatham House and a Council member of the Royal Society of Asian Affairs) and has lectured on them in the UK as well as on cultural tours in Europe and the Middle East.
