CHANNEL THE ISLANDS WITH A QUEENS PARK SWIZZLE THIS THIRSTY THURSDAY

Refreshing, Rum-Filled and Reminiscent of the Caribbean

Even while we may be far from the sun-drenched islands of the Caribbean, we can still enjoy a taste of that carefree beachfront bliss. In today’s edition of Crystal@Home: A Virtual Cruise Experience, the barkeepers of Crystal bring you one of their favorite island-inspired cocktails: The Queens Park Swizzle. The rum-based concoction hails from Trinidad, where it was created at the Queens Park Hotel in the 1920’s. It packs a flavorful punch and can be highly effective in creating a Caribbean vacation vibe pretty much anywhere you choose to sip.

Here’s the recipe, from our bars and lounges to yours (note: kitchens and living rooms also count). Grab your ingredients, muddle, mix and enjoy!

Queens Park Swizzle Ingredients:

3 oz. Havana Club rum
½ oz. rich simple syrup*
½ oz. fresh lime juice
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Handful fresh mint leaves

Directions:

In a highball or hurricane glass, gently muddle the mint leaves until they are softened; use the muddler to coat the leaves up the sides of the glass. Add the remaining ingredients and fill the glass with crushed ice. Using a bar spoon, stir quickly in tight circles (twisting the spoon between the palms of your hands works nicely) to form a frost on the outside of the glass. Garnish with mint and serve.

*Rich simple syrup is made with the same process as traditional simple syrup, but using a 2-to-1 sugar-to-water ratio. Combine 1 cup sugar with ½ cup water in a saucepan over medium heat and stir until the sugar dissolves completely. Cool and store in the refrigerator.

Crystal’s new Crystal@Home: A Virtual Cruise Experience program brings several elements of the renowned Crystal Experience directly to guests, wherever in the world they are.
