We’ve marked many milestones over the past three years; and we’ve relished sharing each and every one with you, the world’s most discerning travelers. From our 25th anniversary to the launch of many new Crystal Experiences available throughout the world, at the helm of all of them has been our CEO and president, Edie Rodriguez. As Edie marks her own milestone third year as the leader of the World’s Most Luxurious Lifestyle and Travel Brand Portfolio™, she’s sharing an inside glimpse into her own travel experiences. Indeed, with decades of luxury travel filling her passport before she joined the Crystal family, Edie possesses a wealth of expertise that extends beyond her industry knowledge. As a professional luxury traveler, she understands the nuanced individuality of travelers’ discerning wishes and preferences, and here, she shares a few of her own.
The first thing I do when I land in Italy is: Literally, I immediately get a cup of cappuccino at the airport. The coffee just tastes perfect and it wakes me up after a long flight.
The last adrenaline rush I experienced was: Climbing all the way to the top of the Sydney Harbor Bridge in Australia. It was fantastic.
The last time I was awestruck while traveling was: At Angkor Wat in Cambodia – truly amazing experience.
My must-do trick for streamlining travel is: Color coordinate my travel wardrobe so I can pack less by mix and matching and packing clothes with fabrics that don’t wrinkle. Also, finding non-stop flights with as few connections as possible.
A view that strikes me every time is: Flying over New York City or a seaplane over Sydney, Australia. Both are two magnificent views.
The last gift I purchased for someone while traveling was: A beautiful chess set in Florence for my son Max.
My most treasured souvenir from my travels is: Ten Commandments written on a stone tablet from Israel. I bought it many years ago in my early twenties and it is still my most treasured travel gift to myself.
When on board Crystal ships, I always treat myself to: A massage. It is a wonderful treat after flying to meet the ship. Then later a dinner in Silk Road of course as there is nothing like Nobu at sea! If I’m on Crystal Esprit, then I always try to take a trip in the submarine.
One adventure that pushed me out of my comfort zone (in a good way) this year was: Going under the sea in our submarine. Like any new experience I wasn’t sure what it would feel like. It was amazing and exhilarating!!
One adventure I cannot wait to experience in 2017 is: Traveling to Egypt and Jordan when I host the President’s Cruise in November. I’ve been to more than 100 countries, but not these two yet, so I’m thrilled to visit them with our guests.
How did American Airlines seat 3A become your mobile office seat of choice? Is it lucky? It started more as a joke because I would somehow usually find myself in that seat. Primarily though, because I prefer not having a bulkhead seat, so that I can store all of my paperwork close by to grab below the seat in front of me while I’m working on board. Thank goodness for Wi-Fi in the sky too!
As the award-winning portfolio of Crystal Experiences continues to expand – including Crystal Yacht Cruises*, Crystal River Cruises, Crystal AirCruises, Crystal Luxury Air and several ocean vessels – Edie will assuredly glean more insights and revelations about traveling this magnificent globe before celebrating her fourth anniversary with Crystal. Until then, we – and Edie – look forward to exploring with you.
