Always photo-ready and full of color, these Bahamas sites are ones you’ll want to share
For many, sharing the moments and sights from our most spectacular adventures is part of the joy of travel. And social media is one of the best ways to bring friends, family and followers along with you on the journey, an immediate kind of “wish you were here” postcard. If there ever was a region that lends itself to photo ops that are sure to tempt fellow travelers, it’s The Bahamas.
Crystal Serenity’s newly announced Luxury Bahamas Escapes (which open for reservations tomorrow, March 18) offer many things – a return to sailing aboard this lovely award-winning ship, rejoining your Crystal Family at sea, exploration of the islands’ and their curious charms, and warm hospitality welcoming you back to travel from ship to shore. They also offer virtually infinite content for your camera roll. As you plan your journey, add these perfectly Instagrammable spots to your can’t-miss list.
Insider tip: Instagram handles are included below where applicable for your pre-cruise viewing enjoyment.
@theswimmingpigs of The Exumas – Yes, the famous swimming pigs have their own Instagram account, and rightfully so. How these photogenic little piggies came to reside in a secluded cay in The Exumas is a mystery, but the joy they bring to visitors as they splash in the waves and bask in their best lives on the aptly named Pig Beach is undeniable. There are guidelines and rules for observing these cute creatures respectfully, but they are absolutely photo-ready.
Pink Sand Beach on Harbour Island – No filter needed here. This stunning beach on Harbour Island fades from bright to pastel pink into the turquoise surf like some sort of cotton candy treat for the eyes. Of course, there’s a scientific explanation for this visual – finely crushed red pebbles that have mixed with the white sand over centuries – but the Instagrammable impact is simply magical.
Dean’s Blue Hole on Long Island – Plunging more than 660 feet down, this deeply fascinating topographical phenomenon is a sight to behold. It’s enclosed on three sides by natural rock formations and gives way to a brightly colored lagoon and white-sand beach on the fourth side. Free divers take note: this is where you’ll want to have your travel companion capture your new profile pic.
San Salvador’s Stone Cross – This stark white statue marks the spot where Christopher Columbus first made landfall. Just offshore is where La Pinta dropped anchor in the New World’s baha mar, as Columbus called them, or shallow seas.
Nassau’s Ocean Atlas – It may be wise to outfit your phone or camera with an underwater protective casing before embarking in The Bahamas, as so many of the islands’ wonders are beneath the blue. Nassau’s Ocean Atlas, for instance, the largest underwater sculpture in the world, will certainly make an impression. This remarkable depiction of a Bahamian girl “sustaining the ceiling of the ocean” is not some lost artistic treasure that fell from a fated ship to the sea bottom, but rather a commissioned piece meant to illustrate that the health of our oceans is on our shoulders.
Queen’s Staircase in Nassau – If you simply ask where to find “the 66 steps,” you’ll be directed to this imposing stone staircase in the Fort Fincastle Historic Complex. Built to provide a direct route between the fort and the city center in the late 18th century, the striking staircase is named for Queen Victoria and the view – and photos – are worth the climb.
Anywhere, everywhere, underwater – The extent of beauty and color that lies along the reefs and off the shores of The Bahamas cannot be overstated. Scuba divers will find shipwrecks and hidden worlds of wildlife while snorkelers preferring to stay closer to the surface will be treated to coral reefs teeming with tropical fish and colors you never knew existed.
@SLSBahaMar – An oasis of luxury and vibrant color set along the shoreline of Nassau, the SLS Baha Mar is the epitome of island elegance and sophistication. Capture moments spent in the Caribbean’s largest casino, or on the sprawling greens and back-nine “moonscapes” of the Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course, or the creative character of the suite décor. This will be the star of your pre- or post-cruise Instagram experience.
@HiltonRWBimini – The turquoise of the sea reflecting in the floor-to-ceiling windows of this gleaming property is a truly impressive photographic effect, and that’s before you even enter the resort. Al fresco dining with marina views, poolside sunsets and toes-in-the-sand cabanas will all star in your social slideshow.
@CrystalCruises’ Crystal Serenity – This lovely lady is ready for her close-up. Pose on the Promenade Deck at sunset. Snap your first champagne toast as you step on board. Capture every sail away from one island port to the next. And most importantly, savor every moment with your Crystal Family to relive long after you’ve returned home.
Throughout your Luxury Bahamas Escapes journey, post your pics and use the hashtag #CrystalFamily to share the memories.
