…Not just a love story about the newest member of the Crystal fleet, ultra-luxury yacht Crystal Esprit, but one that took place aboard this stunning vessel. Love can be found in so many forms on Crystal voyages – love between multi-generational families traveling together, new friendships cultivated through a shared love of travel or food or culture (or all of the above!), and of course, romantic love celebrated with a getaway for two aboard the world’s most luxurious vessels.
We are honored today to share the story of Carol and Tom T. of Bonita Springs, Florida, as the next chapter in their love story began at the same time as their first-ever Crystal journey, aboard Crystal Esprit’s December 30 Seychelles voyage.
Tom booked the sailing with the plan to propose to Carol during their dream vacation. Set amongst the pristine Seychelles islands and elegant backdrop of the yacht, she said ‘yes.’ What was not part of the original plan was the spontaneous idea Tom had to inquire with the yacht’s Captain Wilhelm whether he could perform an impromptu ceremony on board. Again, the answer was ‘yes,’ and the two were treated to the first-ever wedding at sea aboard a Crystal vessel on January 6, 2016.
The private ceremony was held at sunrise on the top deck, arranged by the Crystal team. The couple toasted with champagne and strawberries as the rising sun created the perfect setting for wedding photos.
“This was a first for all of us – our first cruise with Crystal and the first time the captain had performed a wedding ceremony,” says Carol. “He did a fantastic job, it was beyond our expectations!”
Getting married while on a yacht vacation offers one additional convenient perk: the opportunity to begin your honeymoon immediately! The two immersed themselves in the Crystal Adventures offered aboard Crystal Esprit, focusing on new experiences (like the underwater adventure in the yacht’s submersible), as well as activities that were near and dear to their hearts.
“We volunteer in Florida to help protect the Loggerhead Sea Turtles, so the opportunity to help feed and touch the giant tortoises in the Seychelles was very special.”
The Crystal family welcomes Carol and Tom, as we wish them a lifetime of happiness and travel together.
