In Gallivanting the Globe

There’s something about travel that unites us. Regardless of where we live, how old or young we are, or even on what side of the political fence we sit, the world’s great treasures—be they cultural, natural, archaeological or architectural—inspire the same sense of reverence, curiosity and sentiment in each of us.

It was a shared belief of nations, forged by two world wars in less than a generation, that peace and cultural acceptance could be realized through internationally cooperative programs that led to the creation of UNESCO—the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization—in 1945. Without a doubt, this organization’s World Heritage Centre is surely its most recognizable effort, identifying places or landscapes deemed by UNESCO to have significant cultural or natural importance to humanity.

With more than 1,000 recognized sites across the globe, it’s easy to see how ardent travelers might start all sorts of must-see World Heritage lists. So in the spirit of shared discovery, we’ve culled several travel lists to shine the spotlight on some of the many World Heritage sites (in no particular order!) you can visit aboard a Crystal ocean or river cruise. Like yours, our list of must-see destinations around the world is vast and best approached geographically. Here is just a sampling of what awaits you with Crystal in Europe (always a great place to start any kind of travel list, really).
